Ice Maker Repair — City Water, Well Water, and Everything Between

The check order, cheapest first
Most "no ice" and "weird ice" calls resolve along the water's path, not in the maker itself. We test in cost order: the filter (small, hollow, crescent cubes are its confession — and on well water we recommend intervals by condition, not by the label), the inlet valve behind the fridge (a weeping valve drips between cycles and freezes the fill tube into an icicle — the single most common finding), the resulting frozen fill tube itself, and only then the module, swapped as an assembly when its motor or thermostat has genuinely retired. Freezer first, always
Slow ice is often a freezer thermometer in disguise: a compartment drifting from 0°F toward the teens cuts production long before food complains. Every ice call gets a cooling check, because replacing a healthy ice maker in a warm freezer is how other outfits generate repeat business, and we'd rather not be other outfits.
